Once I had my layers set up as...

'Line drawing',

'Shadows',

'Texture map' 

'Base render',

'Standard render'

I then began to arrange them in order of darker tones to lighter tones. Obviously the 'Line drawing' layer would remain overlayed on the top at all times, so that the cell-shaded outline effect would be successful over the render.

At the early stage it was more or less a matter of switching between different opacities, and figuring out which colour tone was plausible enough to develop a consistent colour palette from.

 

Since I wanted to go ahead with a comic-style illustrative theme, colour palettes would have to then play a big role within my renders, so that they can successfully narrate the mood and atmosphere of a render, from first glance.

....By this point I had managed to find the right overlay tone between the several layers.

Now it was a matter of setting up my composition, by adding certain prop features.

Becasue my building is set within a geodesic botanical sphere, plentiful greenery and plants would have been essential to add within the render's scene composition.

After I was pleased with the composition, I then decided to carry on adding textures to existing materials that I had rendered. This process involved me finding high-res textures from Google and magic-wand cropping them over a designated shape to then subtly overlay the texture. Becasue of my 'Line drawing' layer that remained overlayed above, this made selecting and cropping out certain spaces within my render a lot easier, due to the solid black outlines serving as appropriate cropping boundaries to work with.

As ambience effects I decided to add steam and artificial lighting around the nuclear reactor chamber, to suggest at it being an industrial feature. I achieved this by drawing a few shapes using Photoshop's paintbrush tool and then applied the 'gaussian blur' filter.

As a little trivial feature I added the 'Welcome to Nutopia' sign at the bottom right-side of the render. I simply searched Google for forest/jungle signage and then cropped out a fairly good quality sign. Overlayed a wooden texture to it and then applied the 'soft light' overlay to the white 'Nutopia' text in the layer above, for a photo-realistic effect.

Bird silhouettes are always 'a must' within architectural render drawings.
